Ray King Goalkeeper (57-59) Player-manager.
He signed professional forms with Newcastle United at the age of 17. He broke
both of his wrists when saving a penalty from England international Tommy
Lawton. He then played as a centre half and a centre forward whilst his
wrists mended. In 1947 he signed for Ashington to get some goalkeeping
practice and in his first match broke his jaw! In 1949 he signed for Port
Vale where he played until he came to Boston. In 53/4 he played in the Port
Vale side which reached the semi-final of the FA Cup. Born 15/8/1924 in
Warkworth.
