Redfearn has the measure of the opposition

Pilgrims 1-1 Bury

Nationwide League

Boston United included both of their midweek signings in the squad to take on Bury. Former Hull defender Mark Greaves took Neil Thompson's slot, and dreadlocked striker Stuart Douglas had a place on the bench. Early Boston pressure resulted in two free kicks just outside the area. Neil Redfearn curled the first just wide and Simon Weatherstone blasted the second straight into the Bury wall. As the half progressed Bury came more into the game. Paul Bastock had to display his complete range of goalkeeping skills to keep them out. The only Boston chance of note was a long-range blast by Gould that failed to dip and sailed well over the crossbar. Three minutes into the second half Bury were given a gift wrapped goal. Gould attempted a back pass which transformed into a perfect through ball to Jon NEWBY, and not being able to look a gift horse in the mouth, he buried his shot between Bastock and the left upright.

Boston now rang the changes in an attempt to find that extra something that would unlock the Bury defence. First, Angel came on for Greaves, then Douglas replaced Burton. Both substitutions looked good. Angel was soon tormenting his marker with his runs down the left wing, and Douglas provided a useful target to take the pressure off the hard working Clare. With full time only seconds away, Gould tumbled to the ground and Boston were awarded a free-kick in a dangerous position on the right flank. Angel floated the ball into the Bury area where it was met by Warburton with a header that beat the keeper and rebounded off the bar. WEATHERSTONE followed up and his head produced a dramatic equaliser.
