Rowan celebrates scoring

Pilgrims 2-0 Solihull Moors

Conference North

Boston United ended Solihull Moors six match unbeaten run with a workmanlike performance at York Street. "New" signing Mickey Nuttell made his fourth debut for the club after arriving from Boston Town. Other changes saw Michael Wood in for the virus hit Simon Weaver, Stewart Talbot playing while Sam Gaughran was recalled by Peterborough for a Youth Cup game and Jon Rowan returning from injury and being favoured over Ashley Nicholls as Tommy Taylor switched to a 4-3-3 formation. Boston took the lead in the sixth minute when former Boston Town strike partnership Nuttell and Rowan combined well allowing ROWAN to slot home from a tight angle after breaking through down the left. Solihull's first chance of note came in the 23rd minute when a slip by Bloomer let Richard Follett get in a shot, but it was just high of the target. Tony Crane then came close at the other end but his header from a corner was wide of the left post. On the half hour Solihull created a great chance when Simon Rayner was tempted out of his goalmouth out wide, but when the ball was lofted back into the middle in front of an unguarded net they failed to take advantage.

Mickey Nuttell almost scored on his debut soon after the start of the second half but his looping shot was palmed away for a corner, from which Rowan headed just wide. Solihull missed two great chances to level the scores when poor marking presented them with free headers, but they failed to direct them towards the target. Boston increased their lead in the 69th minute when good work by Leabon on the right ended with a cross to Jon STEVENSON who flicked the ball home from close range. Solihull only really threatened right at the end when Rayner had to stretch to keep out a lob by Dale Anderson. Substitute Lee Thompson almost mde it three for Boston in injury time, but his well struck effort was just wide of the post. After the match Tommy Taylor said: "It wasn't a classic but we got three points. Stevo got man of the match again and I was going to fetch him off at half-time!"
