Pilgrims 3-3 Crewe Alexandra

Friendly

by Barbara Singleton

French duo Farid Diaf and Julien Baudet were the centre of attention as Boston United shared six goals with Crewe Alexandra. And solid performances by the pair led to Pilgrims' manager Steve Evans opening discussions with the players' representatives. The Pilgrims grabbed a 16th minute lead when Micky NUTTELL cashed in to tap home after a fumble by young goalkeeper Kevin Welsby.

But the visitors drew level in the 27th minute when, following Paul Bastock's partial punch clear from a corner, Peter SMITH nodded in. The second half was only 10 minutes old when Boston retook the lead with RAWLE firing in, but on 68 minutes, Crewe drew level through Paul TAIT. Nine minutes later the visitors went ahead through former Hyde striker LITTLE. But United equalised with arguably the best goal of the game in the 79th minute from NUTTELL.

United team: 1. Bastock (Conroy 46), 2. Clifford, 3. Lucas, 4. Gowshall (Howarth 83), 5. Baudet, 6. Diaf, 7. Norris (Harris 84), 8. Costello (Raynor 28), 9. Nuttell, 10. Rawle (Elding 56), 11. Lodge (Hoyle 74).
