Arm in arm with David Farrell

Pilgrims 2-0 Lincoln United

Lincs County Shield

Boston United progressed to the final of Lincs County Shield with a comfortable 2-0 win over Lincoln United. Boston went into the match missing Chris Wright, Kieran Leabon and Jon Rowan through injury. This allowed youth team 'keeper Aaron Butcher to make a first team appearance and another youth team member Mitchell Griifiths made it on to the bench. Boston's first good chance was a shot by Jon Froggatt from the edge of the area that was just wide of the right post. On twenty minutes Boston took the lead. David Farrell produced a surging run down the left wing that left Lincoln defenders trailing in his wake. He then crossed the ball into the middle to Ollie RYAN who turned and fired it into the bottom corner. Ryan came close to increasing Boston's lead a few minutes later when his acrobatic shot almost found the net. Another cross by Farrell then fell to Ryan who this time blasted over. A couple of minutes before half time Lee Beeson provided another cross that was just taken off the toes of Ryan before he could tap the ball home.

Boston continued to dominate after the interval, but it wasn't until just before the hour mark that they got their second goal. It was a goal of great simplicity. Farrell hustled after the ball near the left corner before sending in an inch perfect cross for FROGGATT to head past the 'keeper from eight yards out. Stewart Talbot almost scored a couple of minutes later when he retrieved an over hit cross before jinking his way back into the area and shooting just wide. Lincoln's best chance came late in the half when a defensive mistake let substitute Ben Good go one on one with Butcher, but the young 'keeper made an excellent save to deny him. The Pilgrims will now face Stamford in the final at a date and venue to be decided.
