Jon Froggatt wins in the air

Guiseley 3-1 Boston United

Unibond League

Boston United's poor run of form in the Unibond League continued with defeat at Guiseley's Nethermoor ground. However, the win wasn't as comprehensive as the scoreline suggests and if Boston had had more luck it could easily have ended with the scores reversed. Boston began the match with David Farrell back in the starting line-up after recovering from injury and Ryan Clarke on the subs' bench as his three match suspension had ended. Boston 'keeper Martyn Margarson was soon called into action to keep out a long range shot by Mark Whitehouse. David Farrell limped off the pitch after just 21 minutes after a recurrence of his thigh injury. He was replaced by Adam Millson. Boston took the lead in the 38th minute when Jon Rowan was held back by Anthony Lloyd and the referee awarded a penalty. ROWAN took the kick himself and fired the ball home to take his tally for the season to 11. Boston should have increased their lead a couple of minutes later when Rowan beat the offside trap and sprinted clear with just the 'keeper to beat. But instead of scoring an easy goal he decided to lay the ball to his left towards Millson, who was beaten to the ball by a rapidly arriving Guiseley defender.

Boston started the second half with a couple of good chances. Ollie Ryan saw his free kick go just wide and Jon Froggatt saw his long range effort parried. Guiseley equalised in the 55th minute when a shot by WHITEHOUSE went across the goal before bouncing into the net off the back post. Six minutes later they took the lead when Margarson failed to collect a cross allowing Jerome FITZGERALD to score from close range. Boston applied lots of pressure in their attempts to get back into the game. Guiseley 'keeper Piotr Skiba produced a string of good saves to deny them. Ollie Ryan produced a stunning 20 yard curling volley that came within a whisker of finding the top corner. In injury time Michael Wood was given a red card for a foul on Phil Deeney and Guiseley completed the scoring when DEENEY tapped home a cross by Whitehouse. After the match Tommy Taylor said: "The players have got to stay positive. They've got to believe things will go right for them. I've got good players here. They are a good team when they are playing well."
