Boston United Photo Archive
« on: August 25, 2016, 08:58:36 AM »
Sure most people are already aware, but for those who aren't: Andy Butler has set up a Facebook group sharing photos of Boston United from years past. Some absolutely brilliant stuff so far, and lots that has never before made it to the internet, including the Lincolnshire Standard's report on the 6-1 v Derby, and tons of photos of the York Street redevelopment. Some of this stuff belongs in a history of the ground, before it gets bulldozed.

Perfect antidote to any gloom you may be feeling about the fact we're a bit gubbins at the moment. Get over there.

Indeed. Some cracking material on there.... just reminds us why we're the 2nd biggest club at this level and what we should be aspiring to get too in the next few years

On what basis are we the second biggest club?

so ex-league clubs kiddy, darlo, bpa, Halifax, and not forgetting gainsboro couldn't claim the same?

Kiddy are similar-size to us - Darlo, BPA and Halifax are new clubs and Gainsborough? Seriously?

What are you using to determine size?
(Crowds, balance sheet, average league position, trophies?)

Some teams in this division are 'upwardly mobile' - Darlington, Fylde, Salford, Harrogate, Chorley FCUM
Others are trying to stabilise, Stockport, Alty, Telford, Kiddy, Nuneaton Tamworth
The rest are just hoping to maintain their place in this league

History suggests that BUFC are either in group two or three

History, Fanbase, Infrastructure

Stockport are the only ones bigger IMO
Darlo, Halifax, Telford have all died. BPA too. Gainsborough haven't been a league club for a century and have done nothing in that time and get 400 each week

Kiddy are roughly on par as would be Barrow- who I think are very very similar in most areas to us)

You'll disagree but Stalybridge are one of the bigger clubs in this league, despite getting pitiful crowds now (decent ground and ex FL). The likes of Alty and Chorley are not far below us (Chorley are on the crest of a wave- Dad will tell you he used to go and they'd not get 300). Worcester and Gloucester will be up there again if they ever get back home

You are basing that on current status, not history. Fylde, Salford, Harrogate are all 'upwardly mobile' due to £££££££.

History suggests we have been one of the most successful non league clubs in the country.

darlo and Halifax may hAve been reborn, but history says they have both been much bigger clubs for a longer period. History is fact, not conjecture of what might have been.

I agree, those teams ( Darlo and Fax ) have been bigger clubs in the past and regardless of whether they have died or not as the original format, those fans still have their club and its core is still the same. What worries me is that we could be in danger soon if the owners get more abuse and accusations, which could potentially see them then walk away. We could then be left in a position of no funds, a club folding, and a phoenix club then hastily being formed.  If, and i dread to think of the day if it ever did happen, we would then be in the same position as these other named clubs, still a big club, under a reformed name.

Lets hope and pray that this never happens - get behind the lads, staff and owners this weekend, and keep up the great support that we have !

Not the same clubs (fact!) - they should not be claiming their predecessor's history. They are only a few years old, each (fact!).

Ah, the old "big" club debate reappears.

What is interesting to note is the disparity between North and South leagues, we have at least 8 teams who in one form or another (current or former life) have graced the Football League whereas the South only have one (Maidstone) that I can pick out.  Is it just a bit grimmer up north?

You seem to have overlooked the 1970's, the fact that we are currently unbeaten in the Welsh Cup and Jan Molby's small spell behind bars, but apart from that, quite a good argument :-)
