SPOT THE DIFFERENCE The colour tinted photo is given as circa 1905 whilst the B/W photo by Roy E Hackford is definitely dated as 1905. At first glance I thought both photos were from the same year but taken at different times. The layout of the fair is almost identical, however the angle of view is different for both pictures, the positioning of isolated people differ and of course the B/W photo has the central feature of smoke rising from a funnel.
However closer examination shows that the B/W photo has some details not in the tinted pic such as the 'black screening' placed behind the assembled crowd on the left that masks some of the buildings and the extra caravan near to the main roundabout. Also the roofing details of the show directly left of the crowd differs in the two photos. There are also some other subtle differences in the fair layout.
Suggests that the tinted photo is not 1905 but must be quite close - hence circa.
Anyway beats doing the Soduku but I must get out more! Has the snow melted yet!
