He  could have said something else which wouldnt have caused any fuss.
But i cant see why there is such a big fuss over it as he clearly didnt mean any offence

Did he tell you it was coloured or is he just pulling the wool over your eyes. Seriously though, there is a lady in Boston I know who comes from Africa (makes a change from Eastern Europe ) and she is black, not tinted, tanned, half cast, green or yellow, but black. I once referred to her as being coloured because I thought I may offend her if I said black. I thought she was going to kill the white idiot sitting next to her (me), she was so offended at being called coloured. I asked her what I should refer to her as. She said, very strongly, I am not coloured I am BLACK. She is the sort of black person you want in court defending you in a case of racial abuse. Its not being called black thats offensive its the four letter words people put in front of it that makes it bad.

My parents often used the word 'coloured' when referring to blacks.
There was no offence intended. They have been sponsoring children in Africa for over thirty years now. They don't use the word now.
Its just the adjective used by some of the older generation IMO.
Hansen should be aware of all this though.

Ours kids go through schooling being taught to put decriptive words infront of things to aide the reader.  "Adam was looking for a large, green apple"

Why should the colour of the persons skin be any different to their hair or eyes.
So many people have come and gone, their faces fade as the years go by.
Yet I still recall as I wander on, as clear as the sun in the summer sky.

This is getting silly. Coloured is objected to by some Afro-Caribbeans who think it's an insult to group all non-whites together, but my understanding is that Alan Hansen meant precisely that. He was expressing a view against all discrimination; not just against blacks.

I hate it when certain (usually American) groups start grabbing words from our language and turning them into other than their original meaning.

1984 is here and the Thought Police are rampant. Racism is wrong, but let's make sure that we are not developing a lynch-mob mentality, and destroying the innocent along the way.

Isn't that just a change of method from chalk to pen and nothing to do with PC?

I wonder who complained. Probably white liberals who don't even know any black people. Some folks should get out more.
