Josh Burge joins as Pilgrims look to strengthen midfield options
BOSTON UNITED are running the rule over former Grimsby Town midfielder Josh Burge.
The 20-year-old, who was left without a club following the demise of Ilkeston Town, has been training with the Pilgrims and could be in the squad for next week's Blue Square Bet North clash at promotion rivals Guiseley.
Burge did not play under Boston joint-managers Rob Scott and Paul Hurst during their reign at Ilkeston in 2009, but impressed for the club last season.
The Pilgrims are looking to increase their midfielder options after letting Gareth Davies join Matlock Town on loan.
"He's a young lad and he's someone who knows the level," said Hurst. "Gareth (Davies) needed some games so we let him go to Matlock, but it does leave us a bit short in midfield.
"Josh has been training with us and could in the squad for the Guiseley game.
"He's fitted in well and already knows a few of the lads from his time at Ilkeston."
Grimsby-born Burge began his career with the Mariners and was hot prospect at Blundell Park, where he was youth team player of year in 2008.
However, he left Town a year later and joined Ilkeston. Burge impressed in his first season at the New Manor Ground, where he was a team-mate of current Boston players Kieran Murphy and Jason Lee.
