University players selected for England team

CURRENT and former Loughborough University students have worn the famous three lions' shirt, after being selected to play for a "representative" England C team.

Students Kieren Murphy and Anthony Chuch, along with graduate Dan Dillon, featured in the England non league team which played against Hallam FC in Sheffield.

The match was organised by the Football Association (FA) to celebrate Hallam FC's 150th Anniversary at their Sandygate Ground, recognised as the oldest football ground in the world.

As well as turning out for Loughborough FC, Sport and Exercise student Kieren Murphy and Anthony Church, studying Business Economics and Finance, also play for Boston United in the Blue Square Conference North. Since graduating Dan Dillon now plays for Alfreton Town.

Tom Curtis, Head Coach of Loughborough University Football said: "At Loughborough we pride ourselves on being the most successful University football team in the UK.

"The fact that Kieren, Anthony and Dan have been selected to play for England by the FA in this special fixture is not only an honour for them personally, but is also a great achievement for our club."

The England C National Football Team comprises the best footballers at non-league level. Former in 1979 as the England Non-League team, it features players who play for clubs outside of the Football League.

Many players who have been capped at non-league level have gone on to play at a higher level.
