FACT: Mickey Adams lives in Market Harborough, Leicestershire. I know this because he took Port Vale to play a pre-season friendly at Harborough Town this summer, and it attracted the largest crowd in Harborough's history. It was in the local paper.

FACT: There are not many games played on a Monday night, and with Hinckley only a short distance from his home address I'm not too surprised he was there (though I personally didn't see him). It doesn't necessarily mean he was watching anyone in particular.

The B-Ark / Roadworks on the way to Hinckley
« on: August 14, 2010, 11:47:35 AM »

Have just driven back to Boston via Melton Mowbray and Grantham, which is the route I would imagine a lot of Boston fans taking on Monday night (16th August) to get to Hinckley. In Croxton Kerrial, which is a village on the main road A607 between Grantham and Melton, there is a sign "ROAD CLOSED HERE FOR RESURFACING - 10 DAYS FROM 16TH AUGUST."

No doubt there'll be a diversion in operation and, as the works haven't started yet, don't know how much of a difference this will make. But I thought I'd post something so that people can at least allow a bit of extra time for their journey or find an alternative route.

Interestingly enough Andy Dibble, now the goalkeeping coach at Rotherham, had a part to play in the move:

Let's hope the new goalkeeper hasn't taken on board everything that Dibble did during his goalkeeping career:

Caught sight of our ex coach Colin Hendry in that clip as well.

If it has to be a player then it should be Paul Ellender as first choice with Peter Costello in second. Does it have to be a player though that features on the banner?

We ended the decade with a club that we're proud of again, but we came so close to losing the club altogether during those ten years. In recognition of that fact, maybe the face that represents the decade should be someone from off the pitch rather than somone on it?

Next England manager in waiting i think...

Not in my opinion.

Interestingly enough the man who should be England's next manager is currently without a club after Aston Villa decided to dispense with his services. What a shame the FA can't afford financially to do the same to Capello.

Does anyone know if we have another goalkeeper yet?   :bunny

Are we talking about Boston or England? Frank Fielding, anyone?

The B-Ark / Re: Where will Boston finish in the Conf North?

Obviously we all want to be as high in the table as possible and, with a settled squad from last year, I'd be disappointed if we weren't there or thereabouts from the early weeks of the season. I think the play-offs are realistic.

My only concern is that a second successive promotion, be it automatic or via the play-offs, might be a step too far too soon. I look at the Conference National and the vast majority of sides are full-time. Are our finances yet ready for that next step beyond Blue Square North?

I'd like to see us have a good cup run. It's not that long since Burton Albion and Exeter City both played Manchester United in the FA Cup. Both earned an absolute fortune and look where it has taken them since! If we could just strike lucky with such a tie it might fast-track us to where we all want to be. We're due a cup run. Please, no more Lowestoft or Quorn debacles!

At Gainsborough there was a challenge fairly early in the game on Jamie Yates, that was so late it was virtually half-time before there was any impact. It was a horrible challenge and could easily have caused a nasty injury, but the referee chose not to book the Gainsborough player. And yet during the second half the referee starts dishing out cards like confetti to players who express an opinion to him. In the grand scheme of things, which offence is most deserving of a booking? And you can certainly see why managers in general - and not just Rob Scott - become frustrated.

Referees apply the letter of the law as they're taught and don't change their minds, and therefore it is pointless any manager arguing the point with them. Perhaps Rob Scott does need to find another way of curbing some of his aggression. But equally I think its time FIFA took a long hard look at the rules of the game as a lot of the frustration shared by all managers could be eliminated with a few simple rule tweaks and a directive to allow officials to officiate using their own common sense.

The B-Ark / Re: WHOS STARTING UP FRONT SAT
« on: August 09, 2010, 07:10:06 AM »

I think we're more likely to see Hunter coming off the bench, with Newsham, Weir-Daley, Yates and Semple in the starting line-up.

I read that Stafford Rangers have injury and suspension problems in their defence - see article below. Whoever we play up front, let's test their makeshift back-line from the first whistle and see how they cope...

The B-Ark / Re: Very funny - the trophy shelf collapsed!

It also emerged today that the trophy cabinets at both Gainsborough Trinity and Lincoln City had started to buckle under the strain of supporting increased weight. Fortunately danger was averted at both clubs when a cleaner stepped in to remove the excess dust.

After driving to far flung places like Torquay, Whitby and Kendal in the past I was actually looking forward to a Boston match eight miles from my front door! But I guess the postponement does make sense given the current injury situation.

What I'm desperate to hear is that we've found a new keeper, I'm starting to panic a bit.

I agree that we need a second goalkeeper for the sake of having competition in every position, but it wouldn't worry me if Butcher started the season as first choice. He had a bad game away at Ashton when he first broke into the side, but apart from that he's always done well when called upon. And with the addition of more experience to the defence in the shape of Murphy and Jelleyman, it probably isn't as important to have an older head between the sticks.

Just to throw one other name into the discussion as far as new goalkeepers are concerned, does anyone know what has happened to Simon Rayner since his release from Crawley? When he was on loan at Boston from Torquay I was under the impression that he had family in the Peterborough area and was looking to move back. I always rated Rayner as a goalkeeper and whilst I'm not sure if he'd go part-time or what sort of wages he'd command, he might just be someone who'd fall within our geographical catchment area for new signings. Any views?

Good defender, but prone to the odd wobble.

I thought Grimsby were quite poor on the night and personally I wouldn't want to have signed any of the players they had on show. But obviously Neil Woods is more easily impressed...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/g/grimsby_town/8838932.stm

... And just exactly how does a scoreline of Boston United 1 Grimsby Town 0 constitute a win for Grimsby?

There are one or two zeros in the grid:

Romulus and Sutton Coldfield Town
Beaconsfield and Slough
Almondsbury and Clevedon
Ilford and Waltham Forest

I can only deduce that these clubs must groundshare, but is that allowed within the same division? After all, I though that Worksop were told to move away frmo Hucknall as a result of Hucknall dropping down into the same division?
