The B-Ark / Re: Ilkeston Town in Financial Trouble
« on: September 10, 2010, 06:56:18 AM »
Looking at that table I wouldn't want to be a Hyde F.C. fan right now.

There's two ways of looking at this though. If Ilkeston do disappear, then it'll mean one less relegation space at the end of the season. And that will be good news for a poor side somewhere that would otherwise have gone down. I'd imagine that  the likes of Hyde, Redditch, Vauxhall Motors and Gainsborough wouldn't necessarily see the demise of Ilkeston as all bad.

I think there are a few ex-Pilgrims playing for Ilkeston.  Ryan Clarke and Liam Green spring to mind.  A real shame if they can't continue.

Jason Lee, as well.

In the High Court today for a winding up order from HM Customs and Excise...

... Let's hope they pull through - wouldn't want to see another King's Lynn situation. Whenever stories like this come out and I think about the amount of money floating around places like Manchester City, it really is frustrating.

Again, it sounds like the troubles at Ilkeston relate to a period when the club was owned by a previous regime - all sounds too familiar. Hope the club can continue for the sake of its fans.

The B-Ark / Re: 4 Match ban?
« on: September 02, 2010, 07:58:21 AM »

I am struggling to get my head around this discussion. Bad behaviour inside a football stadium cannot be condoned and, if Mr Pearson Senior has stepped out of line, then he should be punished. In his defence however, I've seen him at various grounds up and down the country and he clearly spends a lot of time and money in supporting Shaun in particular and Boston United in general. I've spoken to him on the odd occasion and have found him to be amicable and approachable. Whatever happened against Nuneaton was clearly out-of-character.

I'm reminded of an incident in a match at Hayes a few years ago. It wasn't that game at Hayes but one played a year earlier. I can't remember much about the game itself and can't even now remember the final score, but I do remember a bad challenge being made on United's Joby Gowshall. That culminated in a Boston supporter climbing over the perimeter fence and exchanging punches with the Hayes player involved. My memories of the rest of that game are long gone, but the shame and embarassment at seing a fellow United supporter behave like that is still with me. I'm sure others who were there that day would say the same thing.

I understand that the perpetrator of the Hayes incident was banned from York Street for one match only. It has often been sasid that the incident too was out of character for the individual involved. Maybe that was dealt with too leniently, but it nonetheless set a benchmark around how misbehaving fans could expect to be treated by way of punishment.

I didn't see exactly what Mr Pearson did against Nuneaton to justify a three or four match ban. I don't even know how reliable this story-line is as I've not seen it reported anywhere officially. Club officials must have seen what happened and I fully respect the club's judgement around how to handle the situation. But for the life of me and taking into account my perception of Mr Pearson's character, I don't know what he could possibly have done that could justify a punishment three or four times more severe than that handed out for encroaching onto the pitch and attacking an opposing player.

Currently without a club and back training with Stamford...

http://stamfordafc.net/2010/08/tyrone-drops-in/

... Looks like his decision to move on from York Street a year ago in search of better things may have backfired. S&H saw sufficient in him once to bring him to Boston. Presumably  times have changed though?

Can anyone recommend a good value mobile phone package? I've got a "pay as you go" phone, but I'm no longer convinced it offers the best value for providing score updates - particularly given the current trend towards nine-goal away games!

The results we've had this season have been about team performances and not about the performances of individual players. If I was asked to single anybody out for performances so far this season, the like of Semple and Pearson would be ahead of Church. Let's be honest - at least half of Church's goals have been tap-ins - particularly the winner at Hinckley and the goal at Harrogate. (With Newsham having been injured though, I suppose we do need someone to take on that responsibility).

Incidentally, did Church really score at Harrogate? I thought Pearson's initial header had already crossed the line before Church touched it.

Wasn't he the player that had a training ground fight with a team-mate at Lincoln?

I'm not sure Nuneaton were the best side we've played, but they were far more clinical in front of goal than most. They didn't create that many chances apart from the goals that they scored. Boston on the other had forced a lot of corners but didn't really make them count. Nuneaton 's first goal was well worked and caught us very much on the break.

As the match wore on Nuneaton did waste a lot of time and the ref was very lenient with them. When their full-back went down injured near the Spayne Road snack bar, I can't quite work out how he managed to get away with limping off the pitch on the opposite side of the goal mouth. If that wasn't time wasting, I don't know what was. And every time the ball went out for a goal-kick the Nuneaton keeper was more interested in having a drink than retrieving the ball.

They did the standard non-league round-up at 5.30 of which we were the lead story and interviewed Rob Scott and Shaun Pearson during the feature.

Speaking as an away fan, it annoys me that coverage is broadcast so soon after a match has finished and is then generally not repeated. A lot of the people who would like to have listened to this would have been in Redditch on Saturday; therefore they would have found it very difficult to be within range of Radio Lincolnshire or on the internet in time to listen to the coverage at 5-30. In this day and age surely the BBC should make a link available afterwards via the internet?

When we went into the League we had to have a load of extra security measures installed - including closed circuit television. Do any cameras cover the area where the incident took place? If so, could these be used a little bit more overtly to deter troublemakers but to still allow the 99.9% of well-behaved fans freedom of movement around the ground?

Has there ever been a bigger away win in the club's history?

And I'm not counting friendlies like Spalding.

Let's keep our feet on the ground. Redditch were a poor side who didn't have a clue about defending. I couldn't believe how much space they were allowing Shaun Pearson from set pieces - after he'd already scored twice against them! But you can only beat the side you have in front of you, and today we were clinical in front of goal - so well done all!

I missed last season's 10-0 win over Durham because of ill-health. It was the only home league game I missed all season and I was desperately hoping for double figures as this afternoon progressed to make up for that disappointment. If only Church hadn't blocked Pearson's second-half goalbound header on the Redditch line. In that moment alone I think Church earned the home team's man of the match award. He was certainly Redditch's best defender.

My only gripe this afternoon was with the referee. Did anyone else notice that he only played one minute of stoppage time at the end of the second half? How does that add up, given that the ball went out of the ground two or three times, there were four goals in the second half, a couple of injuries and some substitutions? I'm sure the tenth goal would have gone in if he'd added the right amount of time!

The Lincs Senior Shield games count as competitive fixtures, so no.

I'll check on league games though.

Does Bradford Park Avenue in the play-offs count as a League game though?
