The B-Ark / Re: Pitch inspection tomorrow morning

Judging by the photograph of the pitch on our official site, I can't really see the game being in doubt ...

Salisbury were in the Conference National last season but were demoted two divisions into the Southern League. I believe that was due to a combination of ground and finance-related issues.

The Salisbury experience would seem to suggest there is a minimum standard across the Conference's three leagues. They couldn't meet Conference national standards, but couldn't satisfy Conference South criteria either. If there are minimum standards across the three leagues and Alfreton have fallen short of these, should they even be playing in Blue Square North?

There appears to be a bad case of "sour grapes" in York, judging by some of the comments posted on the York Press website...

http://www.yorkpress.co.uk/sport/8733077.Boston_s_Shaun_Pearson_aims_to_dump_York_City_heroes_out_of_FA_Trophy/#commentsList

... If Shaun Pearson is the worst player to have played at Bootham Crescent this season, I can only assume they haven't played Harrogate in any regional cup competitions. And if they thought our time wasting was pathetic, let's hope they never have to play Nuneaton.

I don't get this obsession some people have with getting him back down here, I could quite happily live the rest of my life knowing that the fat bastard will never again darken this clubs doorstep........ why the hell would we want the architect of the clubs near extinction anywhere near the place?

Anyone at home in the next round please........

Like others, I do agree that people spend far too much time talking about Crawley. In a strange way a Boston United vs Crawley clash might close that particular  chapter and allow us to properly move on.

The B-Ark / MATCH ON - according to York officials
« on: December 11, 2010, 09:47:11 AM »

Boston's website states there is still an element of doubt about this afternoon's match, but York's website states the game will definitely go ahead. I've therefore phoned York City directly for clarification.

The advice I've been given is that there is still snow to be cleared from the pitch, but provided this has been completed by 2:30 the game will go ahead. This is on the advice of the match referee.

Don't shoot the messenger if anything changes!

Apparently tomorrow he compares Matt Tubbs to Lionel Messi....  :P

Things are bound to get messy where tubby is concerned.

ESPN have chosen Crawley vs Derby County as one of their live FA Cup matches. 10th January, I believe.

The B-Ark / Re: Mansfield
« on: December 05, 2010, 08:04:26 PM »

I understand that Glapwell have moved back to their former ground at "Hall Corner" for the time being.

From today's non-league paper, Alfreton are in discussions with Mansfield, with a view to allowing Mansfield to fulfill their fixtures at North Street. Anything that saves a club from going out of business is positive, but I've got my doubts around Alfreton's ability to host larger crowds. Quite frankly, the view I had of the first half at Alfreton earlier this season was the worst I've ever had at any football ground. Put one of the better supported Conference sides in that ground and I think there'd be real problems.

There's one common sense solution to all of this that nobody seems to have mentioned. Why don't Mansfield adopt Ilkeston's ground as their own for the time being? Geographically they're not a million miles from each other. Ilkeston's ground isn't being used at the moment and I'm sure any rent paid by Mansfield would come in very useful to Ilkeston as and when they look to get a new club off the ground.

The B-Ark / Re: Parking in Nottingham
« on: December 05, 2010, 05:11:14 PM »

I've been to Nottingham a few times through work. My recommendation would be the Queensbridge Road NCP car park. It was £3 all day last time I went and that would have been about two months ago. Just pop NG2 1NB into the sat-nav.

It's more or less opposite the railway station and about 5-6 minutes walk from the main shops. Anything any closer (in my experience) is over-priced.

It isn't just fuel that is in short supply.

A couple of nights ago I needed to buy some milk on the way home from work. The first two supermarkets I went in both had empty shelves where the milk should have been. I asked one of the assistants if they'd moved the milk somewhere else, but was told that people had been "panic buying" it because of the weather!

It isn't just about the playing surface, but road conditions also need to be taken into account in terms of whether or not its safe for players and supporters to travel. And on the basis of what they're like in Leicester at the moment, the sensible thing would be to call the game off.  Aside from my own personal interest and not particularly wishing to travel in the current conditions, it has to be considered that half our squad live in the Nottingham-Derby-Leicester triangle. As too will the bulk of the Hinckley squad and supporters.

I think the Conference officials have some questions to answer around why there's a full programme of midweek fixtures during the last week of November. With the demise of the Setanta League Cup there have been plenty of earlier blank midweeks where no fixtures took place. The weather was always going to be better during those earlier weeks of the season, and quite simply this round of fixtures should have taken place long ago.

I predict:

Boston United P-P Redditch United
Attendance 0

Do I get any points for this?

The B-Ark / Re: REDDITCH GAME OFF!
« on: November 27, 2010, 10:51:20 AM »
Thought they would have waited at least another hour before making a decision.

its so they give the redditch fans a chance to know before they set off

If I can just correct one or two of your typing errors...

its so they give the redditch fans a chance to know before they sets off

As far as I can tell we're the first game to have been called off in Blue Square North. This is unusual given the general state of our pitch compared against some of the others we play on. Maybe we're a bit better organised, but judging by the snow covering around Leicester I'd imagine sme of the Midlands games will fall foul as well. Corby isn't that far away and they're home to Alfreton. I'd be surprised if that goes ahead.

Bazza was a establised Conference player with Kettering when Peter Morris brough him to Boston .

Haven't fully checked my facts so this post is based on memory. But as I recall Bazza was only 20 0r 21 when he joined Boston, and had been at best sharing the goalkeeping spot at Kettering with Kevin Shoemake. I'm not convinced he was that well established?
