Grimsby Town 3-2 Pilgrims

Avon Insurance League

by Craig Singleton

Boston United included trialists Stuart Douglas and Clint Marcelle in their reserve line-up that kicked off the new campaign away to Grimsby Town last Wednesday. The Pilgrims lost 3-2 after surging into an early two-goal lead through efforts by Peter Costello and Marcelle. Grimsby pulled one back before the interval and then went on to net twice more.

Their marksmen were Phil Jevons, Darren Mansaram and Chris Bolder. Reflecting on the match, Neil Thompson said: "It was certainly a hard match, but it meant we got 90 minutes of action into some players who needed the match. As a workout, it was excellent. And I am sure as the season progresses, we will see the benefits of having a reserve team playing at such a good level."
