Notts County 5-0 Pilgrims

Avon Insurance League

by Craig Singleton

Boston United Reserves crashed to their heaviest defeat of the Avon Insurance League Division One East season on Wednesday as Notts County went goal crazy. The Magpies' second string were ahead in only the 11th minute when former Leeds United striker Tony Hackworth netted. Boston held out until 40 minutes before conceding again as Willis Francis drove the ball home from 18 yards to double the Magpies' lead. And two minutes later, Shaun Harrad rifled home a 20-yarder to put County 3-0 up at the interval.

In the second half, both Francis and Harrad double their tallies. Harrad smashed home another powerful angled effort on 57 minutes before Francis curled home a 30-yard free-kick with 20 minutes remaining. Boston used five trialists including Hartlepool duo Matt Robson and Gordon Simms, free agent Gavin Maughan, Notts County winger Ben Richardson and Basingstoke striker Neville Roach. The win ensured that County completed the double over United, following a 2-0 victory at York Street in December.
